Before you can use this snap-in, you must register the Schmmgmt.dll file.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"tocHeadRef\">Register Schmmgmt.dll<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Click <strong>Start<\/strong>, and then click <strong>Run<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Type regsvr32 schmmgmt.dll in the <strong>Open<\/strong> box, and then click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong> when you receive the message that the operation succeeded.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4 id=\"tocHeadRef\">Transfer the Schema Master Role<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Click <strong>Start<\/strong>, click <strong>Run<\/strong>, type mmc in the <strong>Open<\/strong> box, and then click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>On the <strong>File<\/strong>, menu click <strong>Add\/Remove Snap-in<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Add<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Active Directory Schema<\/strong>, click <strong>Add<\/strong>, click <strong>Close<\/strong>, and then click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In the console tree, right-click <strong>Active Directory Schema<\/strong>, and then click <strong>Change Domain Controller<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Specify Name<\/strong>, type the name of the domain controller that will be the new role holder, and then click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In the console tree, right-click <strong>Active Directory Schema<\/strong>, and then click <strong>Operations Master<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Change<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong> to confirm that you want to transfer the role, and then click <strong>Close<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 id=\"tocHeadRef\">Transfer the Domain Naming Master Role<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Click <strong>Start<\/strong>, point to <strong>Administrative Tools<\/strong>, and then click <strong>Active Directory Domains and Trusts<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click <strong>Active Directory Domains and Trusts<\/strong>, and then click <strong>Connect to Domain Controller<\/strong>.\n<p><strong>NOTE<\/strong>: You must perform this step if you are not on the domain controller to which you want to transfer the role. You do not have to perform this step if you are already connected to the domain controller whose role you want to transfer.<\/li>\n<li>Do one of the following:\n<ul>\n<li>In the <strong>Enter the name of another domain controller<\/strong> box, type the name of the domain controller that will be the new role holder, and then click <strong>OK<\/strong>.\n<p>-or-<\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Or, select an available domain controller<\/strong> list, click the domain controller that will be the new role holder, and then click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>In the console tree, right-click <strong>Active Directory Domains and Trusts<\/strong>, and then click <strong>Operations Master<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Change<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong> to confirm that you want to transfer the role, and then click <strong>Close<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 id=\"tocHeadRef\">Transfer the RID Master, PDC Emulator, and Infrastructure Master Roles<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Click <strong>Start<\/strong>, point to <strong>Administrative Tools<\/strong>, and then click <strong>Active Directory Users and Computers<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click <strong>Active Directory Users and Computers<\/strong>, and then click <strong>Connect to Domain Controller<\/strong>.\n<p><strong>NOTE<\/strong>: You must perform this step if you are not on the domain controller to which you want to transfer the role.
